"When I ran out of the underground subway tunnel, the sunset above ground was brilliant and dazzling. The ruined city was like a vast black vortex, and terrifying monsters had taken it over.
I knew I had to fight them to survive, but only two hours later, I realized that those monsters were not my enemies.
To free my body from the Slime stuck to me inside the subway car, I had to peel away part of the skin on my arm. The wound hurt, but what was more deadly was that the sanitary conditions here could very well infect it. I had to find somewhere to treat it quickly.
I didn't expect to find any professional medical equipment. At the very least, I needed clean water, preferably some cloth I could use for bandages too. Food and sleep were things I could consider only after getting rid of this damned pain.
Maybe it was just my imagination, but the pain had started to numb half my body. I had been injured plenty of times before, but no wound had ever hurt like the one on my arm did now—so badly that my muscles went numb and my head spun.
As expected, I had been separated from my companions. But thankfully, that chatty little animal was still by my side. He greatly eased my mental strain. Having one team member in good spirits was always a good thing.
I thought I might be on some street in New York, but I could hardly tell for certain. After all, I had been away from Earth for far too long.
Soon, I discovered that I was very lucky. There was a hospital on the same street as the subway station, and thankfully, there were no more terrifying monsters along the way.
