The prison transport's bright headlights cast a luminous arc across the black highway. As the pool of light slowed and gradually came to a stop, armed security guards filed out of the prison and trained their weapons on the vehicle.
The highly practiced escort procedure proceeded step by step until a powerfully built criminal in a straitjacket was pushed out of the transport. Amanda Waller pushed open the prison gates, came up behind the guards, accepted the documents for verification, and signed them.
"Keep a close eye on him." Amanda spoke in an icy tone. "As far as I know, this Thomas Elliot has no abilities beyond those of an ordinary person, but do not let your guard down. Don't forget how many people he has killed."
Amanda's lips pressed tightly together. There was genuine anger and sorrow in her voice. Her throat moved slightly as she said, "Those idiots at the Federal Bureau of Investigation let him escape during the investigation, and as a result, seventeen more people died by his hand."
"The Bandage Killer. What an impressive reputation." Amanda closed her eyes and drew a deep breath. "When he was arrested, he had just killed a farming family in southern Kansas. The surviving little girl was only eleven. She lost her parents, grandparents, and uncle forever, and became an orphan."
The atmosphere at the scene was as heavy as ice. The captain of the guard was a middle-aged white man. He stepped forward and patted Amanda on the shoulder. "Our job is to make them pay the price. Come on. There's one final review procedure before he enters his cell."
The prison transport carrying the inmate and the heavily armed guards entered the prison in force. Looking in from the gates,
