Amid a series of clanging metal noises, the prisoners in the cells gradually rose to their feet, lined up by the doors, and waited for the guards to let them out for recreation.

There were only three people in Bruce's cell. He deliberately waited a moment, letting Bane take the lead while Donn and he followed behind. Bane bent down first to pass through the narrow cell door. Bruce, bringing up the rear, paused and said to Donn in a mocking tone, "Now that Big Dog's gone, who are you going to look for?"

Donn swallowed, looking completely at a loss. Bruce did not need to point it out for him to realize that he was now the easiest target in the cell, just like Jimmy had been before.

But unlike Jimmy, he had never formally joined any gang. Big Dog had been his only backer, and now that Big Dog was dead, he did not even have a way into a gang. His two cellmates clearly had no intention of protecting him either. Donn was terrified.

Bandage Killer was one thing. Though he acted cold, he had not displayed any aggression so far. But Bane, the new cellmate, looked every bit like a violent maniac, and he was far stronger than Big Dog. If Bane bullied him the way Big Dog had bullied Jimmy, he would have almost no chance of surviving the first round.

Seeing Donn's expression gradually turn to panic, Bruce silently turned away and followed the guards outside.

Once they reached the recreation yard, Bruce did not hesitate. He headed toward the group of longest-serving serial killers in the prison and sat down in an inconspicuous corner. Though he spoke to no one, he had already made his affiliation clear to the other gangs.
