Breakfast was served on the round table by the window. A breeze slipping through the gap in the window stirred the thin gauze curtains, making the steam rising from the breakfast dishes sway and curl.
Schiller and Bruce sat at the table eating. Schiller lowered his head, twirled some spaghetti around his fork, scraped away the excess sauce with the tip of his knife, and said after putting it in his mouth, "After breakfast, I'm going to a banquet. You can look around the nearby wineries. No one would turn away Bruce Wayne."
"What kind of banquet are you going to?" Bruce picked up a German pretzel roll and cut it into small pieces with his knife.
"A somewhat unusual gathering, though it is still for someone's birthday." Schiller looked up at Bruce, then sighed. "I don't think you'd like that sort of occasion. Besides, you can't show up looking like this."
"You said no one would turn away Bruce Wayne."
"I meant ordinary people." Schiller paused in the middle of cutting his food, thought for a moment, and said, "They aren't ordinary. They aren't even quite normal. I don't think anyone needs to deal with them."
"What could be more unusual than a group of serial killers?" Bruce countered. He twirled up some spaghetti, let the sauce drip over the bread, and put them both into his mouth.
Schiller lightly tapped his fingertips against his fork and said hesitantly, "I'm just not sure whether you can step into this world... Well, I suppose you've changed enough already. In that case, it isn't much of a risk. But as I said, you can't go looking like that."
"Then what should I dress like?"
"No, I mean you'll need some special items. I'll take you shopping after breakfast."
