After Bruce moved every tome from the library in Beelzebub's demon palace back to the Oblivion Bookstore, Constantine was already buried beneath a mountain of books.
But Bruce still dug him out with considerable effort, pressed a hand to his shoulder, and said, "Come on, John. We need to sort all of them and put them into categories. This is our school's valuable reserve of knowledge."
"Have mercy!" Constantine wailed. "Nothing good ever comes from getting mixed up with you two master and disciple! There are tens of thousands of books here! More than half of them aren't even written in human languages!"
"That's fine. I can decipher those languages first. Madame Xanadu said she would help me. She's lived for so many years; surely she knows at least some of the writing used in the occult world?"
"You met Nimue?" Constantine said, sprawled amid the piles of books. "I'd advise you to stay away from that woman. She was the one who took out Merlin back then, and she's been tangled up with the Phantom Stranger for years..."
"I only need her knowledge," Bruce said as he took out a notebook and began writing and sketching in it. "Let's start with that pile over there. When I was in Hell, I learned its Common Tongue and over a dozen racial languages. Their language families share common roots. I don't think it'll take long to sort out the books compiled in demon language."
Constantine gave a dry laugh. "Then you can start deciphering them. I'll just go..."
"You're not going anywhere. And you, Tim, come here. I'll teach you Hell's common script first, then you can sort that pile. Jason, stop standing there. Take the pile to Tim's right."
