Spider-Man followed Batman into a special room. The light in it was overwhelming, even a little too intense, to the point of seeming like light pollution. There were at least a hundred screens of varying sizes throughout the room.
The largest main screen showed the site of the robbery that had taken place during the day. The moment Spider-Man entered, he let out an exclamation and rubbed his eyes hard, seemingly unaccustomed to such bright light.
"God, how many cameras did you put in Gotham?" Spider-Man was still unaccustomed to the word Gotham and nearly bit his tongue saying it, but his attention was quickly drawn to the images on the surveillance screens.
"As you can see, this is a Dark City with an exceptionally high crime rate."
"Exceptionally high? How high?"
"The Gotham Police Department reported 6,113 crimes this year, half of which were major offenses."
"...Isn't that about the same as New York?"
Batman turned to look at Spider-Man. Spider-Man sighed and said, "This morning, I heard Uncle Ben say that New York reported around 5,739 crimes this year, about a 40% increase from last year."
Batman turned back, about to continue, but Spider-Man went on. "But those are only ordinary criminal cases. They don't include alien invasions, biological mutations, rampaging cyborgs, Mutants losing control, and so on. If we count those, there have probably been seven or eight thousand."
"And New York has been destroyed more times than usual this year. Alien invasions and Thanos's arrival alone destroyed New York four or five times. Going by victimization rates, at least 90% of New Yorkers have been affected."
Batman narrowed his eyes slightly and looked at Spider-Man. "Then who is responsible for public safety in New York City? I mean, which superhero? Your 'Mr. Stark'?"
