The Inner World was still shrouded in wisps of white mist. The towering buildings along the skyline resembled mirages amid a sea of clouds. Beyond the structures commonly found in Gotham City, many fantastical buildings floated in the sky.
The most conspicuous were several Gothic spires of varying heights. The cylindrical towers floated overhead, connected by suspended stairways. Up close, students in mage robes could be seen moving between them.
Each spire was ringed with tall Gothic windows crowned by inward-curving pointed arches. Through the windows, students could be seen standing or sitting in brightly lit common rooms, either huddled together and chatting quietly or sitting alone at desks reading.
Facing the windows was an enormous bookshelf occupying half of the curved wall. It held projections of nearly every book that could be found in the magical world. Some students hauled over ladders and climbed to the top, taking down hefty tomes and stacking them higher than their heads before wobbling over to their desks, arms full of books, and burying themselves in study.
One older-looking brown-haired boy stood before the felt board by the common room door. He pulled out the pins holding up the old timetable, then pinned up a new one. Once he was done, he looked over his work, nodded in satisfaction, clapped his hands, and said,
"Second-years, don't forget that the latest Magic Theory class has been moved to tomorrow afternoon. Bring the short essays you finished after the last class. Professor Schiller will be reviewing them."
The moment he finished speaking, a flustered female voice came from behind him. "Kane! My dear prefect, what topic did you write your essay on? Let me see it, quick! I really can't write a single word!"
