Schiller followed Pamela to the botany laboratory. After all, she had just given him a gift and immediately run into trouble; it would have been rather impolite for the recipient to stand by and do nothing.
Gotham's botany laboratory was located in the old laboratory building, separate from the High-Energy Physics Laboratory and the cryogenics lab. But recent events had fully demonstrated the necessity of the new laboratory building.
There were no particularly expensive instruments in this old lab building, so the rampaging plants had not caused much damage. If all the laboratories had been crammed into one building, those man-eating plants would have become the chief culprit behind Gotham University's declining teaching quality.
Because the building was rather old, there was some standing water by the main entrance. Pamela and Schiller took a slight detour and entered through the side door. "It's not as though I didn't put any defensive measures in place. I installed sprinklers containing special plant toxins in both the warehouse and the laboratories. They only affect rampaging man-eating plants. Once they escape, the sprinklers activate. Any plants touched by the toxin immediately calm down and won't cause too much damage."
"Very farsighted, Miss." Schiller glanced out the window.
When they reached the third floor, the male student called Lante still looked shaken. But it was not because of the pile of man-eating plants sprawled across the floor. Botany students were all used to this sort of thing; there was no plant Pamela could not handle.
Pamela understood that as well, so she immediately stepped forward to help Lante up and asked, "What happened? What scared you this badly?"
"There was someone..." Lante took a deep breath, but he still looked panicked. Schiller immediately stepped forward, pressed a hand to his shoulder, and said, "Take a
