To avoid drawing attention, Quill had no choice but to hold Rocket Raccoon in his arms and pretend he was a teddy bear. Drax and Groot were easier to explain away; after all, visitors were used to seeing larger costumed performers.
They moved very slowly, because someone kept coming over to take pictures with Groot. The cute-looking Mantis was also extremely popular. Even Drax had fans, and quite a few people asked Quill where he had bought such an adorable raccoon plushie.
In other areas, their somewhat strange appearances might have raised alarms. But this place was Batuu, a gathering place for all kinds of alien races. The tourists only assumed Disney had arranged for specialty performers and marveled at how professional and immersive it all was.
The Guardians of the Galaxy also got swept up in the feeling of being so popular. Drax kept striking various Strongman poses and even hoisted little girls onto his shoulders so their parents could take commemorative photos.
Groot seemed especially fond of human children, as if the juvenile forms of this species perfectly matched his tastes. He carried four or five children on his shoulders and even let one sit atop his head while their families took a photo.
Mantis acted like the most dedicated Disney performer, smiling and nodding at the people around her, wearing a slightly shy expression as she posed for pictures with tourists.
Star-Lord, who looked the most normal of them all, kept showing off his alien gun, bragging and chatting with young men interested in weapons. He was having even more fun than the tourists. Twenty minutes after entering the park, they had not even gone a hundred meters.
Schiller, sitting by the window in a nearby restaurant, silently covered his forehead at the sight.
