The sedatives would take some time to kick in. The Fear Gas had entered Jason's bloodstream directly, filling his vision with hallucinations and leaving him unable to support his own body.
He saw those leather shoes step across the cold floor, drawing closer and closer. The pressure was even more terrifying than the hallucinations before his eyes.
But Schiller walked right past him. The door slammed shut, and Jason heard the lock click into place.
"I convinced Batman of a little more than you might think," Schiller's voice sounded behind Jason. "There are no surveillance devices here. For you and me, this is the only place where we can escape Batman's sight."
"Impossible. He's just hidden them." Jason would never admit it. Lying on the floor, he gritted his teeth and said, "If he told you a place wasn't monitored, it only meant he was confident you wouldn't find it."
"Whether you believe it or not, I have a way to tell if this place is under surveillance." Schiller stood directly in front of Jason's head. Even when Jason craned his neck as far as he could, he still could not make out Schiller's face, though he could feel his gaze.
"I told you already, it was fortunate that you didn't show your talent sooner." Those feet stepped toward the operating table again.
Even through the haze in his mind, Jason could infer what Schiller meant. It seemed this Doctor had not had a fortunate childhood, but could some talent beyond that of ordinary people truly allow him to escape Batman's surveillance completely? Jason was still doubtful.
What he was more curious about now was how Schiller had tricked Joker away from Batman. Batman would never hand Joker over to anyone.
As though he had heard Jason's thoughts, Schiller began
