By the time they left Adela's house, the rain had stopped. Coulson held the completed records and walked from the awning beside the house toward the garage. He turned to his assistant and asked, "Where are the two doctors?"
"They're checking the car's fuel tank in the garage to see whether it leaked. They're also examining the navigation system and checking when the navigation signal was sent."
Coulson pulled up the garage door and went inside. He found Simmons crouching beside a jack and examining something, while Fitz stood nearby holding an item and taking notes.
"Good news, Coulson, we've got a case." Fitz stood up, removed his gloves, and looked at Coulson. "Notify the Director. This has been confirmed as a Supernatural Phenomenon. We can begin a full investigation."
Coulson frowned. "How did you determine that?"
Fitz pointed at the car's fuel tank. "First, the tank isn't leaking, and none of its parts are damaged. Second, based on the condition of the gasoline residue stuck to the tank, we can determine when it was last refueled."
"She never bought gas again after returning from Canada. The car was towed back," Simmons added. "The condition of the gasoline residue on the tank matches the residual gasoline from the station where this woman said she last refueled."
"So?" Coulson asked.
Fitz sighed. "It means she really did fill the entire tank at the gas station she mentioned. We found her credit card charge in the station's payment system, and the gasoline traces corroborate it."
"The traces on the fuel tank also show that it really was filled at the time. With no damage to the tank, it would have been impossible to burn through a full tank just driving to that gas station. But the gasoline vanished into thin air."
