In a dark basement in Gotham, a bearded man in a trench coat let out a deep sigh. The young woman sitting across from him tucked her short red hair behind her ear and said,
"Is this putting you in a difficult position? Then just send me back. I think you've already done enough, Mr. Constantine."
"That's not it." He sighed deeply again. "Call me John, Barbara. I missed the only window to get you to a hospital. It's too late now."
"Look on the bright side. At least I won't be paralyzed from the waist down." Barbara pursed her lips. "In this city, getting possessed by a demon isn't exactly a big deal."
"If it were only Gotham, maybe I'd agree with you. But haven't you noticed? In this new city merged with Gotham, there's a group of extremely troublesome people."
Constantine sat in the corner, pulled out a cigarette and brought it to his lips. After hesitating, he tucked it back into his pocket. He shook his head, looking irritated.
"You don't seem as at ease as you claimed to be." An inscrutable light shimmered in Barbara's eyes. Her normally youthful, energetic face bore an unnatural pallor.
"This is serious trouble, kid, but it can always be solved."
Despite saying that, Constantine still had a terrible headache. He couldn't say he had made the wrong choice. The timing had simply been unfortunate.
When Constantine had gone to save Barbara, he found that she had been hit in the side of the waist. He wasn't a Doctor, but he could tell that the wound might not be fatal, though it would certainly leave her disabled.
From a mage's perspective, removing the bullet and healing the wound should have been no big deal. Miraculous magical energy could save anything fated
