Talia ultimately decided to attend the dinner, but she ran into a very practical problem: she had no clothes.
Pamela put it this way: "I really like those two dresses you brought. They have your own unique style, but they're usually not the kind the upper class likes."
"And if I remember correctly, Professor Rodriguez, the host of the banquet, has already seen both of those dresses. Wearing old clothes probably won't be welcome."
"That was only one of my strategies for Bruce Wayne." After smoothing back her hair, Talia said, "It doesn't represent my personal style. In fact, my real style would be even less welcome among high society."
"Then do you want to buy something new?" Pamela sat on the edge of the bed. "It's still early. Maybe we can browse around."
Talia checked over what she had to do and realized that she truly had nothing urgent on her hands. She really shouldn't have used this time to gather intelligence, even if it was only to learn more about Gotham's layout.
But this really was not a good time to wander around. Roads were blocked everywhere, gangs filled the streets, and the entire city was preparing for the opening ceremony. Someone as suspicious-looking as Talia would be among the first targets of suspicion. For an Assassin, drawing attention was never a good thing.
So she would rather stay cooped up in the hotel chatting with Pamela than go outside and do something she actually ought to be doing.
