The atmosphere in the room remained heavy and quiet.
Pathological believed Pamela's condition fell outside his field of expertise, so Pamela soon found that the professor had returned. Yet he did not sit back in his original spot. Instead, he stood by the window, silently lost in thought.
Pamela, whose emotions had only just begun to stir, was not about to calm down so quickly. She had held back from arguing earlier only because she feared the imposing presence of that mysterious Schiller. But she knew this professor better, and understood that in most circumstances, he was more than willing to explain things to his students.
Pamela called Schiller twice, but he actually did not hear her. She could not help straightening up in bed. Only when Schiller noticed her movement did he turn to look at her.
"Sorry, I was thinking and got a little distracted. Do you feel any better, Miss Pamela?"
"I'm much better. I just wanted to know..." Pamela paused. Her nostrils twitched slightly, and after some hesitation, she said, "Do you think I'm different from you?"
"It seems you noticed more of the similarities between us." Schiller chose his words carefully. "That was also why you appeared in my manor garden when you ran into trouble."
"I..." Pamela's Adam's apple trembled faintly. She took a deep breath and gathered her courage. "I saw you—another you. I saw how you dealt with the demon. I mean, the moose."
"How did that make you feel?"
Schiller sat down in the opposite corner of the room, farther away from Pamela. Yet from that vantage point, where he could survey the whole situation, he looked more like a hunter, clearly lurking in the shadows and observing something.
"I felt a little excited." Pamela was very frank. "Watching you cut
