By looking perfectly put together and seeking out the host for a brief chat before the banquet officially began, he could give people the impression that he was ready for the evening, and that everything would continue peacefully from there.
It could not exactly be called deception. It was more like a misleading form of concealment, conveying the attitude that he had only come to attend the banquet today and had no intention of doing anything else.
But when someone deliberately displayed a certain attitude, it proved that he was definitely going to do the exact opposite.

But the irresistible forces troubling the Main Universe now seemed to have vanished, and Gotham in the Main Universe did not appear to need saving quite so badly anymore.
Still, Batman intended to see the Gotham where Schiller lived. After all, it had not been completely torn down and rebuilt. It had undergone improvement and transformation instead. There were surely many fascinating details in that process of evolution, novel sights well worth observing.
