Charles closed his eyes. A storm of thought began to swirl through his mind as his psychic power spread farther and farther, gathering everyone's brainwaves together before he flipped the final switch.
With a whoosh, the group landed.
The war-torn scene they had imagined did not appear. They had landed in a relatively quiet alley. Charles turned and saw Schiller and Wanda, while Jarvis's inquiry sounded beside his ear.
A tiny red dot floated beside Wanda, and Jarvis's avatar appeared within it. He said, "I have detected fluctuations in the brainwave data. It seems you have successfully arrived at your destination."
"I can receive messages from David, but for certain reasons, he cannot contact you at the moment, so I am relaying this on his behalf. He controlled the landing point because he believed visiting the city where he lives might aid your investigation."
"We were planning to do exactly that. Thank him for his help." As Charles spoke, he involuntarily raised his head to look at the enormous shadow spreading across the sky. "But I'm afraid we can't just look around anymore..."
Wanda and Schiller looked up together and saw a gigantic ray floating in the sky.
That was right—a ray suspended in midair. A goddamned ray with blue eyes.
"Don't tell me that thing is one of his personalities too." Wanda swallowed. "It doesn't even have to be humanoid?"
"No one said it had to be humanoid," Charles said. Wanda instinctively looked at Schiller, then lowered her voice. "Fine, I guess I was prejudiced. But what can a fish possibly do?"
They quickly found out what the fish could do, because gun barrels suddenly extended from its goddamned belly and fired lasers at them.
With a wave of the Scarlet Witch's hand, a glowing red shield enveloped them.
