The French National Library was not far from where the Spider-Men were, but the problem was that it was Wildfire Gang territory. If they wanted to get in, they had to defeat the gatekeeper there—a foul-tempered old man named Max Kevin, whose ability was to spray plasma flames.
Most of the Wildfire Gang's personalities were highly aggressive, and Max was no exception. Worse still, the flames he sprayed were incredibly hot. The Spider-Men's suits could not withstand that level of heat for the time being, and even a glancing hit would injure them.
Spider-Gwen believed that while communicating with the Time Manipulator was important, they could not forget why they had come. Since Gwen had already entered, they still needed to find out about the machine.
