Batwoman's life in Metropolis got off to a rough start.
Although Wonder Woman had told her to contact her as soon as she landed, Batwoman felt she should at least sort out her housing first. So she texted the landlord whose listing she had found on the Web and hurried to the address he had given her.
The rental process went smoothly. Batwoman quickly paid the deposit, completed the paperwork, and carried her luggage into the room to settle in. The main problem came when she went shopping for daily necessities.
Modern people needed too many miscellaneous things to survive. Batwoman had not made a detailed shopping list before going to the supermarket, so after pushing her cart out, she realized she had forgotten several things, including but not limited to air conditioner cleaner, tape, pillowcases, and other things she needed tonight.
Batwoman wanted to go back in and buy them, but that meant pushing her heavily loaded cart through most of the supermarket again. So she chose to leave her purchases at the storage counter.
The middle-aged man at the storage counter kept staring at Batwoman with an unmistakably malicious look.
In the first half of Batwoman's life, she had rarely encountered looks like that. Even when she had, they had never been so blatant.
To be fair, the gender-swapped version of Bruce Wayne was a beauty. Her beauty was almost equal to Bruce Wayne's handsomeness, but the way society treated her in that regard was completely different. There were far more malicious and lewd stares.
Batwoman disliked that look, but she could not be bothered to argue with someone like him. So she decided to forgo storage and push the cart back inside herself.
But then the clerk at the storage counter began muttering extremely hostile insults loudly
