The teller handling Schiller's business expertly dropped beneath the counter. Within two seconds, every other employee had found the nearest cover and ducked behind it, while the few customers conducting business in the bank assumed defensive positions as quickly as they could.

That made Schiller, sitting stiffly upright in his chair, look rather out of place.

It was not that Schiller did not know how to take cover. He simply really wanted to see who, exactly, was robbing the bank.

As mentioned before, major cases in Gotham had become much less frequent. Gotham had sufficient police forces now, surveillance cameras were everywhere, and it was hard to get away after committing a crime. Most people did not want to go to prison.

And generally speaking, based on the bank robberies Schiller had seen and experienced during his long stay in Gotham, no robber was stupid enough to charge in and shout that they were robbing the bank.

They usually disguised themselves as ordinary people, approached a teller or front-desk manager, then quietly told them—or handed them a note—demanding that all the cash at the counters be gathered into a bag.

Some smaller criminal groups stopped there. For their own safety, the tellers would not resist them and would simply hand over the money that had not yet been deposited in the vault.

Some more capable major-crime crews set their sights on the vault, but they were generally extremely professional, with a clear division of labor and advanced technical methods. Robbing the place was rarely the problem. The biggest problem was whether they could escape afterward.

In fact, not many people had ever managed to escape after robbing a bank in Gotham. It was just that most of them had not been caught by the police, but robbed by Gotham's gangs
