Taking Jason's Rolling Heads Gang as an example, there had been two children around his age back then. One now worked at an auto repair shop, while the other had gone to another city and was probably working at a convenience store.

Of the two girls slightly younger than him, one had gone to work as a performer at an amusement park, while the other had started a breakfast cart business with friends.

Among those much younger than him, there had been one who had been completely unable to care for himself when Jason was still the leader of the children. He was now attending elementary school in the East End and living with the child who worked at the auto repair shop.

The others gave this child money every month to cover his living and schooling expenses. Jason contributed the most because he was better off than the rest.

The other Children's Gangs mostly followed the same pattern. Some had reached the point where everyone could work, while others still had one or two members in school, supported by the rest through their jobs.

The Children's Gangs had emerged to fill gaps in social order. Back then, too many orphans had been abandoned on the streets, while the gangs that ruled those streets had lapses in their control. The children, growing up wild, had organized themselves to survive in the cracks between the rules.

As the number of orphans plummeted, it was easy to imagine that this unique form of organization, born of a unique era, would soon vanish completely into the river of history and never appear again.
