"We've got a new situation here. You'd better come take a look."
Gordon's voice came through the phone. Schiller set down the fork in his other hand, made an apologetic gesture to Shivan across the table, and took his phone into the restroom.
"What is it, Director?"
Schiller asked because he could hear fear in Gordon's voice.
About an hour earlier, Officer Clay had suddenly gone mad for some reason during the plea bargaining conference. He had attacked the officers maintaining order and had been shot dead on the spot by Gordon.
Not just in Gotham—even in any other city in the United States, anyone daring to openly attack others in a courthouse would have the police empty their magazines into them. Clay had also displayed an extremely unstable mental state and a powerful urge to attack, all of which had been captured by the courthouse security cameras.
So even though Gordon had shot and killed someone, his report would not need to exceed three pages. And after Clay's body had been sent to the hospital for emergency treatment, it should have gone straight to the morgue.
After surviving in this city for so many years, Gordon was not the kind of person who would be afraid of shooting someone dead. Even if the victim had once been his colleague, what was going on now?
Schiller reassured Gordon. Gordon was silent on the other end of the line for quite a while before saying, "Clay came back."
"What?"
"He came back to work."
"You mean Gotham Police Department is haunted?"
"No, he isn't a ghost. He's a person. He suddenly came back, and he was surprised that I was still at Gotham Police Department instead of attending classes at Metropolis Police Officer Training Academy. He acted completely normal."
Schiller frowned
