Daredevil Matt and Elektra had held their wedding about a year ago. Since neither of them liked extravagance, they had simply invited acquaintances to a meal, then spent nearly three months on their honeymoon.
Not long after the trip began, Elektra discovered she was pregnant. But they had already left the country and eagerly embarked on their new journey. Neither wanted to turn back because of it, and Elektra did not feel unwell, so they continued with their itinerary.
The only benefit Ninja training had given Elektra was an exceptionally strong physique. She had not suffered much during the first three months, though they still canceled strenuous activities like mountain climbing and diving, focusing instead on visiting museums and enjoying local food.
After having their fill of fun, the two returned home to prepare for the child's birth. Matt's teacher, Stick, came by as well. He believed the child would likely inherit both parents' gifts.
But Matt and Elektra did not want their child to possess any abilities beyond those of an ordinary person. They only hoped he would grow up safely.
Elektra was not very old, and her pregnancy had gone fairly smoothly. But several examinations close to her due date revealed that the baby was in a somewhat improper position. It had not corrected itself by the time of delivery, making the birth difficult.
Childbirth was dangerous to begin with, and this ordeal left Elektra badly depleted. Matt had always worked as an independent lawyer, but seeing this, he stopped taking cases and stayed home to care for Elektra and the baby.
His superhero career had also temporarily stalled. A newborn needed feeding far too often, once every two or three hours, without stopping even at night.
To ensure Elektra got a full night's sleep, Matt had to
