Only after sitting down at the dining table did Schiller learn that the news Matt wanted to tell him was related to Sandman.
They had previously suspected that Sandman had been kidnapped and had tracked down a strange Translucent. They had initially suspected that Sandman might have been working with this kidnapper as well, while Schiller had devised a plan to lure the snake from its hole.

Schiller did not know where this Invisibility Cloak had come from, because this character was far too obscure, a minor figure among minor figures. There was no need to remember his origin story in such detail.
But that did not stop Schiller from making up a plausible origin story for the Cloak. After all, the Sorcerer Supreme also had a Cloak. If he said the two were brothers, no one could refute him, except the Cloaks themselves.
