Nick sat behind his desk, propping up his face with one hand as he waited for news. He looked at Peter bustling around in front of him with utter displeasure, and when he looked at Schiller sitting beside him, he looked at him even more like a human trafficker.
Schiller ignored him. When Peter paused briefly, he asked, "How is it, Peter? Did the examination of the corpse yield anything?"
Peter stopped, then shook his head. "Nothing seems wrong so far, but genetic analysis requires specialized equipment."
"What equipment do you need? I can have it brought in," Nick said. "I have nearly every piece of specialized equipment you could find."
"What I mean is that even with specialized equipment, we might not be able to find the problem. Human genes are far more complicated than you imagine."
Peter adjusted his glasses. "As everyone knows, the human body has many illogical features, plenty of redundant parts. But those things didn't appear out of nowhere. That means they may have been useful at some point in human evolution."
"But humans evolved too quickly. Many components were never completely eliminated, and the genes were never filtered out. They remained in the human body and formed today's incomparably complex genetic system."
"To put it simply, human genes are a pile of spaghetti code." Peter shook his head. "This troubles every geneticist in the world. Even an expert like Dr. Connors wouldn't dare claim he completely understands human genes."
"So if someone tampered with the genes, the chances of detecting it perfectly are very low." Peter gave a pessimistic conclusion. "We can only infer the general properties and location of that gene from the way genetic alterations affect the mental body, then use any possible implantation traces to deduce the identity of the culprit
