Alfred was as thoughtful as ever, having already prepared hot tea and little cookies on the coffee table. Batman flung himself onto the soft sofa with a thud, lay on his side with his head propped on one hand, boredly watched the late-night program on TV, and tossed a cookie into his mouth.
Before he knew it, only one little cookie remained. Batman kept his eyes on the television as he reached for it, but his hand touched another hand the next second. He sprang up with a howl.
Batman turned his head and stared at the figure seated on the other sofa as though he had seen a ghost. The other man picked up the last cookie, tossed it into his mouth, then took a loud sip of hot tea with a satisfied expression.
Batman glared at him.
Schiller, reclining against the sofa without the slightest self-awareness, watched the noisy late-night family drama with great interest. He even had the leisure to joke with Batman.
