Schiller tilted his head aside. The streak of blood grazed his cheek, leaving a bloody mark across his cheekbone.
When he turned back, the youth known as one of the Wonder Twins had already appeared before him. He swung a fist, but Constantine raised a hand, and a flash of magic sent him flying.
"Zan, stop!" Constantine shouted at him. "Think of your sister. Don't let him control you!"
When the youth flew back up, he wore a mocking smile. "You wouldn't understand. Everything is for the great cause of the Vampire King. She'll understand soon enough!"
A purple glow abruptly appeared behind Constantine and then engulfed him completely. It was as though a giant purple hand had seized him by the throat, and a pained groan escaped him.
The youth called Zan flashed behind Schiller again, locking an arm around his neck as his teeth drew close to the side of Schiller's throat.
"Listen, kid, this isn't a good time to turn me." Schiller remained perfectly calm. "Don't you want to know what Batman prepared for you?"
The youth paused slightly, but soon displayed a vicious smile. "Batman? He'll soon be a thing of the past. Our great King will show him who the true King of Bats is!"
"Batman discovered your secret." Schiller spoke unhurriedly. "Blood is the key to your power, and some people's blood is special. Don't you want to know how far he got?"
"Once I turn you, you'll tell me obediently anyway."
"If that were true, why would Batman have told me this secret?" Schiller smiled, looking entirely confident.
The youth froze. Doubt crept into him. After all, he had once been a member of the Justice League and knew something of Batman. If Batman could not ensure someone would never leak a secret,
