As dawn approached, Schiller returned to Arkham Asylum. To his complete lack of surprise, Brand had not slept at all. Schiller set the late-night snack he had bought on the way on the table.
Brand straightened up from behind his desk. He looked as though he had been out of it for quite some time, only jolting awake when he caught the scent of food. He hurried over and asked, "From a Chinese restaurant?"
"What else?"
"Right. They're the only ones open this late." Brand rubbed his hands together, but then seemed to realize something. He narrowed his eyes at Schiller and said, "What are you trying to pull this time? I'm warning you, one late-night snack isn't enough to buy me off."
"You're overthinking it. They just wouldn't sell me a smaller order."
Brand felt that something was off, but he could not put his finger on it. In the end, he stopped thinking about it, opened the bags, and started eating. He watched Schiller use chopsticks with practiced ease, somewhat envious, but obediently picked up a fork and ate his chow mein.
"You went to investigate around the school. Find anything?"
"That school also had middle school and elementary school divisions," Schiller said. "They seemed to have operated for some time about ten years ago, but were demolished later for some unknown reason. I suspect the problematic principal might not have been the high school principal, but the principal of those demolished middle and elementary school divisions."
"There were three principals?" Brand asked.
