Jena suddenly snapped awake and took a deep breath, feeling as though she had been pulled up from beneath a sheet of ice.
Then she noticed Bruce staring at her as if he had seen a ghost.
"What is it, Professor Wayne? Are you all right?" Jena wiped the sweat from her forehead with the heel of her palm, then said, "Sorry, I may have been letting my imagination run wild. These thoughts just suddenly came to me, so I said them out loud. Maybe I should have been more rigorous?"
Bruce pressed his lips together again and again before saying, "Can you tell me how you saw all that?"
"I could just feel that he was in terrible pain."
"The victim?"
"The killer."
Jena looked at the photographs with pity, but she was not looking at Nygma, who had been cut into countless pieces. It was as though she were seeing another soul through the corpse.
"In a sudden disaster, his soul was nearly destroyed. It caused him unimaginable pain."
Jena shifted her gaze to the second photograph. It was an overhead shot of an oil drum, and the person inside had already been roasted.
"He was telling everyone that he had been turned into something else. Like the man in that barrel, turned from a human being into food. That was what happened to him too. A stronger being turned him into meat on a chopping block."
"But he did not give up... no, at that time, he had no choice about whether to give up. Maybe someone saved him. Someone put him in a safe house. It was... very cramped, but it made him feel safe, like this oil drum."
