On the outskirts of Gotham, on the side of a hill absent from every map, beneath a steep cliff face, a carefully concealed Iron Gate lay hidden beneath scattered rocks.
After numerous scans and verifications, Batman walked along the metal bridge beyond the gate. Pentagonal archways supported the entrance to the Batcave, while the long metal bridge passed through several arches and extended deep into the mountain.
Cold fluorescent tubes lined the inner sides of the archways, casting bands of blue light across the bridge. As Batman passed beneath them, the chill glow flowed down his cape.
Beyond the metal bridge was an elevator platform. When it descended to the bottom, it became clear that this place was still unfinished.
Opposite the elevator stood an enormous cylindrical space divided into several upper and lower levels. At present, only the lowest floor and half of the second had been completed. A corridor extended from the walls around each floor, with several doors along it.
It was not difficult to see that this tower-like structure seemed to have been designed by Batman after a building that existed only in Dream. Standing at the base and looking up, the layers upon layers of floors created an endless sense of oppression.
For now, it was merely an underground base, with none of the strange collections one might expect. But after Batman stepped off the elevator, reached the second-floor corridor, and opened one of the doors, countless surveillance screens filled the room.
Every screen represented a corner of Gotham. Yet only two-thirds of the surveillance screens in this room were lit; the rest were black.
This fully demonstrated Gothamites' boundless curiosity about novel things—and their destructive power. The black screens meant the cameras fixed in those locations had been destroyed.
Batman had been rather busy
