"Did you know a fleet appeared at the docks?" Schiller asked.
"Isn't it normal for a fleet to appear at the docks? What else, a convoy of cars?"
"Really? Three-masted square-rigged warships?"
Old Siltec's eyes widened. "What?"
"I doubt Spain has had any state visits recently, so where do you think those three Holy Trinity ships at the docks came from?"
Old Siltec froze for a moment, then roared, "It was Jeff!! It had to be him!!! He..."
"What about him?"
"He... he might know that incantation."
"What?" Schiller frowned.
"He might know the incantation used by the man he framed. I can't be sure, but he said some crazy things to threaten me. Maybe he thought that if I didn't give him what he wanted, he could use that thing to curse me."
Schiller drew a sharp breath. "You mean he used the incantation before he died?"
"I can't be sure," Old Siltec said. "Anyone who uses that incantation goes mad. Did he look mad when you saw him?"
Schiller recalled that when they had first seen Jeff sitting on the floor, he had seemed relatively sane. But by the time Jeff charged into the room where they were, he had already been somewhat out of his mind.
So Jeff had activated the incantation then? Schiller considered it and felt that was possible.
Jeff had certainly not activated the incantation for no reason. Joker had tortured him until he nearly went insane, and he had even killed his entire family. This had to have been his revenge against Joker.
And that, in turn, suggested that Joker had not tortured Jeff for no reason either. While he had indeed wanted to disgust Batman, he had more likely been trying to force Jeff to activate the incantation and bring about disaster.
