The entire room fell silent.
Agent was the first to stand up. "The hotel massacre was your setup?!"
"What's the problem?" Greed said. "I got the inspiration from the Bishop."
Agent opened his mouth, then glanced at Beyonder. Fine, he should have realized it sooner. The Bishop hardly participated in the game at all, so it was highly unlikely that he had ever gotten in touch with Beyonder. The two of them were complete strangers. The odds of Beyonder designing game elements based on his experiences were extremely low.
On the other hand, every Schiller could access the memory archive, and Greed himself knew about what the Bishop had gone through. That meant nearly every Schiller knew that someone like Greed, who scraped away every last feather from a passing goose, excelled at making use of trash.
"Are you thinking the Bishop is trash?" Greed asked Agent.
"I wasn't. I'm not. Don't make things up." Agent denied it flatly.
Batman, meanwhile, was piecing together the entire backstory in his mind. With Greed's setup added in, the origins of every background faction in the game became clear.
Originally, the church's origins had seemed rather abrupt. After all, simply creating a few bizarre incidents and then showing up to rescue people did not seem like enough to develop the church into what it was today.
But if they had made a deal with some Outer God and cooperated with an old family born during the Age of Discovery, then it made perfect sense.
Greed's storyline was probably that an ancestor of the Siltec family had worshipped an evil god since the Age of Discovery. After faking his death to escape the royal family, he came to Massachusetts and established the hotel.
And while building the hotel, he had not abandoned his faith.
