The Pale Rider felt that something was off, especially when he saw the third identical vending machine outside his office.

First, he did not drink soda. Second, he had no coins. Finally, even teenagers who particularly enjoyed beating up vending machines should not need three identical machines as punching bags.

But that was only the beginning.

There was a recreation room across from the Mayor's office. Normally, no one else was allowed inside. It was mainly used by the Mayor to entertain guests.

On the first day, a pool table had been carried into the recreation room, but for some reason, another one was carried in today.

The Pale Rider went in to take a look and found only one pool table inside. He had no idea where the previous one had gone.

Most absurdly, on the third day when he came to work, he saw people carrying another pool table inside. Yet there was still only one pool table in the room.

The three vending machines outside the door were gone as well.

The Pale Rider practically thought he had seen a ghost.

For the next few days, he did not even handle official documents. He just squatted outside his office, watching what they carried in every day.

At first, it was fine—nothing but pool tables, dartboards, foosball tables, and the like. Later, it became vases, tea sets, statues, and other items packed in wooden crates.

The Pale Rider was not rich, but he was not ignorant either. One glance told him that those things were expensive.

The key was that those things only went in and never came out, and they vanished from the room within a day.

The Pale Rider was starting to think there was a miniature black hole across from his office.
