"They're getting desperate." Rose set down the documents in her hands and said, "They're eager to find dirt on Gordon, but they haven't made any progress. Someone has been lurking outside Gordon's home, but they've never managed to run into his daughter. Miss Gordon is smarter than they thought."
"Of course." Schiller curled his lips into a smile. "If that's all they're capable of, they'd better pick out their graves soon."
"They also wanted to start with Nightwing, but no one knows where that guy came from. They investigated him every which way and only found that he was connected to Batman. But now isn't a good time to make a move on Batman."
Hearing that, Schiller turned around and looked at Rose. "What do you know about high society's attitude toward Batman?"
Rose shook her head. "They don't let me know too much just because I manage the natural disaster fund, in case I take matters into my own hands. All I know is that Batman is very important to them."
"More important than Bruce Wayne?"
"Bruce Wayne isn't important at all," Rose said. "If he's gone, there'll be someone else. Wayne Enterprises' capital won't leave Gotham; it doesn't matter whose hands it's in. But Batman is different."
"How is he different?"
"Madmen with brains that broken aren't easy to find." Rose spoke bluntly. "Finding someone who truly believes that fighting crime on the streets can save this city is one of the hardest things in the world. You could search every mental hospital on Earth and still not find one."
Schiller frowned slightly. "Are you sure Batman was found by them?"
Rose's hand, which had been stroking the documents on the table, paused. Yet she showed no surprise as she said, "Do you know Gotham's history?"
"Which part?"
