Now, an awkward situation had arisen.

Schiller and Strange had deliberately refused to take on work, seemingly triggering a guaranteed-death ending. Yet neither of them had died. The damage caused by completing the guaranteed-death ending had made it impossible for the game to proceed smoothly.

The nurse had clearly never encountered a situation where wooden monsters charged out of the Metal Passage but failed to kill the Doctors. The key was that not only had the two of them survived, they were still lively and kicking—not only physically healthy, but mentally unharmed as well. They were even thinking about work.

Call it strong, and for some reason it had stopped following the rules. Call it weak, and it had perfectly borne the consequences of not following the rules, even surviving them.

After standing there blankly for a while, the nurse merely said, "I'll go take a look," then left.

By then, night had fully fallen, and it was about time to rest. The evening bell rang, and Schiller and Strange once again sat before the fireplace, stuffing the wooden monsters' limbs into it.

Schiller observed the operating room and found that it was much dimmer than when they had arrived, but the fireplace seemed unaffected. Its glow remained bright and warm.

"Don't forget to take the item before you fall asleep." Schiller handed Strange the jar containing the nails, then said, "We can test our theory and see whether this thing can take the punishment for us."

Strange nodded. Though he was somewhat repulsed by other people's body parts, having his nails pulled was hardly a pleasant experience. He did not want to go through it again.

Meanwhile, Schiller pondered every detail of yesterday's dream. He remembered being strapped to a metal chair, but its armrests were made of metal
