Wanda took a key from her handbag and jabbed it into the keyhole for quite a while, but she could not get it open. When she came to her senses, she realized she had taken the wrong key. It was the key to her community college locker, completely different from the front yard gate key. Of course it would not turn.
She sighed in frustration, took out the actual front yard key, and opened the gate. After pushing it open, she nearly tripped over the threshold again, so annoyed that she flung her bag backward by its strap.
When she reached the front door, Jarvis opened it before she could. He was wearing an apron, and the scent of scrambled eggs drifted through the crack in the door.
The sight of Jarvis seemed to improve Wanda's mood somewhat. She smiled at him, hung her bag on the hook beside the door, then sat on the shoe bench and began changing her shoes.
Jarvis returned to the kitchen, turned off the heat beneath the scrambled eggs and plated them. He picked up the scissors nearby, snipped some basil leaves from a small flowerpot to garnish the dish, then turned to Wanda and asked, "How was today? Did you practice giving injections again?"
Wanda sat on the bench in a daze. Only when she heard Jarvis's question did she say, "Oh, yes. We practiced IV care in clinical class today, and we also learned how to identify prescriptions..."
