After seeing Barry off, Schiller picked up his cigar again, returned to the dining room, threaded through the crowd, and sat down beside Victor, who was breaking apart breadsticks.
"What is it?" Victor asked.
Schiller shook his head and had a waiter bring him a fresh set of cutlery. As he tied his napkin, he said, "Nothing. Did you see the breaking news just now?"
"You mean the explosion on Metropolis's commercial street? Didn't they say it was caused by a gas explosion at one of the businesses?"
Schiller nodded again, but he did not seem to be affirming the truth. He merely appeared satisfied with that explanation.
Although Schiller had taken the cutlery, he did not serve himself much food. He only ordered a little vegetable salad and spent most of his time drinking.
Victor glanced around, then lowered his voice. "Jonathan is an absolutely unstable factor. I really do not know how the president agreed to let him come back."
"The Chemistry Department is short on faculty, which has seriously affected Gotham University's ratings and ranking. And the rapidly expanding chemical industry also needs a greater reserve of talent. Jonathan is still worthy of recognition in his field."
Victor studied Schiller's expression. He did not look like he was saying one thing while meaning another.
"You are serious? That does not sound like you." Victor shook his head, turned his attention back to his plate, and said, "Jonathan is a born sociopath. He will never settle down and honestly be a professor. If he causes a huge disaster, it will be too late."
"Sociopaths have their uses too." Schiller smiled. "Two new superheroes have arrived in the city. How could there be no supervillains to oppose them?"
"New superheroes? Who are you talking about?"
"Batman and Superman, of
