"His opponent was a Martian." Batman's conclusion was unequivocal.
When Big Beard had counterattacked Superman, Schiller had already considered that possibility, and everything Big Beard had done afterward confirmed it.
Martians were an alien race with an enormous gap between their upper and lower limits. The stronger ones could even suppress Kryptonians empowered by the sun, while the weaker ones were basically useless. Armed humans with modern weapons could beat them.
The most famous Martian was, of course, the Martian Hunter. He was called a "Hunter" not because he hunted on Mars, but because the Martian word for police officer translated to "Hunter."
So the "Martian Hunter" should really have been called the "Martian Police." On Mars, he had worked to maintain public order and fight crime.
"Martians should already be extinct," Batman said. "The only survivor is the Martian Hunter. But Ron would never do something like this. He's a hero who hates evil, and invading Earth wouldn't benefit him either."
Extinct? Not necessarily, Schiller thought. The Martian Hunter appeared to be the last Martian, but another Martian had survived—the culprit behind Mars's extinction and Martian Hunter Ron's younger brother, Ma'lfak.
Unlike Ron, his brother Ma'lfak had been a born antisocial deviant. He did bad things every day as a child, and after growing up, he even tried to rape his sister-in-law. After being arrested, he begged his brother to spare him, but Ron refused. In a fit of rage, he used a virus to wipe out all of Mars.
From humanity's perspective, the more aliens like that, the better. But from the Martians' perspective, they had probably died so thoroughly that they would still stick a mouth out of their graves just to ask, "Why?"
As for how he had survived, that had to start with the Martians'
