Schiller's group found a freight elevator not far from the monitoring room. It was a cylindrical capsule elevator, large enough to hold dozens of people, and it was still operational.
Using the data in the monitoring room, Schiller had roughly inferred the meanings of some Kryptonian characters, especially the numbers, so he could understand the elevator buttons.
Schiller had initially wanted to go directly to the surface, but considering that the dream might not extend that far, Hal could be somewhere in the mine. He selected a middle-floor number, intending to search that level for Hal's trail.
The elevator soon stopped. After stepping out, he looked to either side and saw many more pitch-black tunnels. The entire mine was frighteningly quiet, with only the faint hum of machinery and the crackling current of the lighting equipment drifting from far away.
Silence meant safety, Schiller thought. While reliving this part of the past, Hal had felt safe. Perhaps someone had been with him—his anchor.
Standing at the edge of the passage and looking down again, Schiller spotted light two levels below. That floor was clearly different, looking like a living area.
"Will they be there?" Injustice Batman had seen it too and spoke up.
"We can go down and take a look," Schiller said.
They took the elevator down another two floors. Once the doors opened, many things became clearer.
The closer they got to the dream's owner, the clearer the dream became. Schiller thought. It seemed Hal was on this floor.
To avoid conflict with the locals, they rounded the corner as quickly as possible. Schiller swiftly glanced over the room plaques in the corridor. From left to right, they grew increasingly distinct.
The plaque at the end of the left corridor seemed to contain only a number. The ones
