Before the star, the two tiny black dots kept growing in view. Polaris, her green hair framing her face, rested her chin on one hand and thoughtfully watched the spacecraft crumpled into an iron ball. After Magneto lowered his hand, she also raised hers, aiming at the remaining spacecraft on the right flank.
There was no wind in space, yet Polaris's long hair began to float and dance in the air like a fluttering banner. She copied Magneto's motion exactly, extending her hand and then gently closing her fist.
Yet the remaining spacecraft did not come apart cleanly. Only its forward deck changed shape. Polaris let out a breath and shook her head.
She turned to Magneto. He glanced at her and said, "Watch carefully. This is the last time."
After saying that, he seemed to have grown impatient. He raised his hand again, without a single unnecessary movement. In an instant, there was no explosion and no sound. Countless parts from the spacecraft separated as if they had been precisely dismantled, drifting into space. Polaris murmured, "...Deconstruction?"
After thinking for several seconds, she extended her hand again. A spacecraft on the left flank was taken apart by her, but she seemed to run into trouble when deconstructing the cockpit. Polaris frowned deeply.
Neither father nor daughter paid any attention to the light gathering at the main ship's cannon. The instant it fired, the scorching energy it released was shoved straight back into the barrel. With a boom, the entire cannon exploded, and nearly half the hull was reduced to ashes.
Every weapon that fired at them seemed to have mutinied at once. All the energy blasts and shells meant to be launched surged backward through their barrels and exploded inside their own chambers.
Such barrel explosions were extremely lethal.
