Arkham Batman stood in a dimly lit underground parking garage. The scanner in his cowl marked the three nearby cameras in red. The cameras looked ordinary, even somewhat outdated, but he could almost see the eyes opening on them.
"I'm cutting communications for a while." He pressed the earpiece on his cowl and spoke to Barbara.
"No, Batman." Barbara's voice was full of concern. "That guy is dangerous—the most capable agent I've ever seen. Without technical support, you might be at a disadvantage."
"It's pointless, Barbara." Arkham Batman did not call her by her codename. "No one can beat him online. It can alter any information. There's no way we can find Schiller through any modern technology."
"What? You mean that Electronic Life? He's working with Schiller?!"
"Maybe he wasn't before, but he has been ever since I started hunting Schiller." With that, Arkham Batman cut the call. Just as he was about to head for the parking garage's only exit, a vehicle exploded behind him in a burst of fire and deafening noise.
Schiller's newly acquired Ford was far better than his old black Chevrolet, equipped with an advanced intelligent control system. He drove it into the old district and found a place to park, but he did not get out immediately. As he organized the equipment in the case, he muttered to himself, "You lured Batman over? If I'm not mistaken, you'll lead him to a nearby parking garage. Don't tell me you're planning to kill him with a car explosion. You're underestimating Batman."
Without waiting for a response, Schiller picked up the case and got out. He looked around, then headed in one direction.
