New York's coastline was a beautiful sight, with quite a few seaside hotels standing along the shore. Most were high-rises with excellent views of the sea.
This was the off-season for beach vacations, so there were not many people on the sand. The few guests in the hotels did not notice that the perfectly clear day had suddenly become foggy.
A nearly imperceptible wisp of mist swept past New York's coastline, followed by two figures chasing after it as though they were racing the air itself. Then, a sea breeze drifted by, and the mist seemed to scatter in the wind before making a sharp turn and stopping atop the New World Hotel building.
Iron Man, clad in the Iron Man suit, made the same sharp turn. The hiss of the armor landing and the scrape of machinery sounded together. Seeing the gray mist condense into a human shape across from him, Iron Man's faceplate snapped upward, revealing an expression filled with anger.
Captain America soon leaped up as well. He shouted at the figure formed from the mist, "Schiller! Stop!"
When Schiller appeared again, he was no longer wearing a black suit, but a white doctor's uniform. He said helplessly, "I stopped. Will you listen to my explanation?"
Before he could finish, a miniature missile flew toward him. Just as it was about to touch his body, Schiller became gray mist again and started racing around New York.
Originally, Stark and Steve had been speeding one after the other across the rooftops of New York's skyscrapers, but another figure soon joined them. Peter swung over on a web, leaped into the air beside Steve, turned his head, and asked, "Captain! What happened? Why are you running?!"
"Peter! Go stop him!!"
"Stop him?" Peter turned back to look ahead, but
