The pale blue planetary shield gave off a faint glow. Though it could not compare to the moon in either size or shape, the sight of this enormous, softly glowing planet still inevitably brought moonlight to mind. At times like this, people were especially prone to homesickness.
When the three escort fleets launched from the docks, they had seemed like behemoths. Yet as they drew closer and closer to Apokolips, they became incomparably tiny. As they entered the shield's light, they could not even stir a ripple across its vast surface, like handfuls of sand scattered into the sea, vanishing without a trace in an instant.
The captains all knew that their ships might never return, but they continued to watch the surveillance projections in silence. There was only one thing they wanted to know: how did the other side intend to deal with the escort fleets?
An escort fleet consisted of sixteen ships. Besides the River-class escort ship itself, there were five scout ships, three supply ships, and seven aerospace fighters. In other words, it was essentially a spaceborne aircraft carrier fleet. The River-class escort ships sent on this mission were the Hudson River, Niger River, and Gan River, whose captains were an American, a Nigerian, and a Chinese man respectively.
These three capital ships were second-generation vessels among the River-class escort ships. Compared to the Mississippi River, Nile River, or Yellow River, they were roughly two tiers behind.
Even so, they remained a force not to be underestimated. At minimum, they were capable of defending a star system. In other words, any one of these three fleets could protect a system comparable to the Solar System, while the defensive range and level of three fleets fighting together would increase exponentially.
