Despite Jarvis's help, and despite Strange needing to do nothing more than sign his name on the documents, the work still took up more than two hours of his time.
At first, Strange had intended to be conscientious, at least skimming through the documents he could understand. But in less than twenty minutes, he had already begun signing them mechanically.
By the final half hour, he could not even be bothered to sign them himself. He simply had Jarvis imitate his handwriting. Then he leaned back in his chair and took a nap.
Strange did not actually need sleep; meditation was enough for him. But the contents of those documents were so sleep-inducing that they gave him the best rest he had had in a long time. When he woke up, it was somehow already time for the regular meeting.
"We have a morning meeting and an evening meeting," Jarvis reminded him. "The morning meeting is at 7:30 a.m., while the evening meeting takes place before the end of the workday at an unspecified time. Also, as the newly appointed Speaker, you need to form a new cabinet. The process must be completed within a week."
"So I can select new people for the departments?"
"That is correct. The Interstellar Council currently has seven major departments, each with a minister and a deputy minister. You will decide those positions, while the ministers select their other subordinates."
"I can't choose all humans, can I?"
"No. You cannot even choose everyone from Virgo or the Milky Way Galaxy. You must take the entire universe into account. Basically, you should choose from among your defeated competitors. I have filtered the candidate list for you."
