Two sturdy figures walked out of the portal, one after the other. The one in front turned and said to the one behind him, "You'd better behave yourself. This isn't Earth. If something really goes wrong, no one can save us!"
"Yeah, yeah." Who knew what benefits that old devil had promised him? He was working so hard for him and had insisted on dragging Danny along. "I've never even driven an excavator, and you're making me work on an alien construction site..."
"I'll say it one more time: we're not here to work. Some ill-intentioned aliens may have infiltrated the site. We're here to catch spies."
"Isn't that still work when you get right down to it?"
The two were the brothers Johnny and Danny. Mephisto's so-called "solution" was to get them into the construction site and catch the dangerous individual. It wasn't a bad idea, since they really could fight—these were two Ghost Riders. But clearly, neither of them wanted this job.
They first changed into work uniforms in the preparation room, put on hard hats, and then followed the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to their posts. Their job was simple and boring: sit in tall chairs and watch anti-gravity crane arms stack walls.
One sat in the southeast corner and the other in the northwest corner. They could see each other and everything happening below. These positions had clearly been arranged specifically for them, because if they spotted anything wrong, they could directly deliver Heavenly Justice.
They sat there for an entire day without discovering any problems. The manager Mephisto had told them to watch especially closely did not show up at all. When night came, Danny was preparing to go back to sleep, but Johnny stopped him.
"Don't forget what we came here to do. What if this
