The night in the snow did not grow any brighter. Dark clouds blanketing the skies above Metropolis plunged everything into deep darkness. Diana slept restlessly. In her dreams, she saw the pained faces of her injured sisters one moment, then Schiller's indifferent yet inscrutable smile the next.
Sirens suddenly blared, startling lights to life everywhere. Diana woke as well. She rushed to the window, pulled back the curtains, and looked outside. Thick smoke rose from a building, while raging flames lit up the night sky.
Countless police cars and fire engines converged in that direction, but Diana sensed something unusual. She did not even have time to change clothes. She hurriedly grabbed the God of Fire Sword nearest to her and flew out at top speed.
The building had snapped in half and was about to crush a fire engine. A figure streaked past, lifted the fire engine, and carried it away. Diana glanced at Hal, who was glowing green all over, and gave him a slight nod.
Ron soon flew over as well. Clearly, they had all been jolted awake. The battle during the day had drained much of their strength, and they had slept especially heavily that night. They had not even had time to change after waking, arriving at the accident site in their pajamas.
The moment the building fell, Diana realized this was no ordinary fire. On one hand, although this was downtown Metropolis, it was not the financial district. No one worked through the night here. With no one in the building, there could have been no fire. On the other hand, the blaze clearly was not severe enough to collapse the structure, yet the building had been severed cleanly in half.
"Don't tell me Schiller let Doomsday loose again?"
Diana swore that the next
