"Ugh!"
The gunshot and scream rang out almost simultaneously. Everyone turned around to see that Dr. O'Dell had already been shot and fallen to the ground.
"Damn it!" Amanda cursed, roaring, "Forget him! Keep charging in!"
The others obeyed, leaving Dr. O'Dell behind. Schiller glanced back at him. He was clutching his lower abdomen, his face twisted in pain, seemingly genuinely incapable of dealing with a gunshot wound.
Schiller turned forward again. Amanda was charging at the front, with Damian slightly behind her and roughly level with Steve. The Allen couple were moving at about the same pace as Schiller, while Bruce was at the very back.
In the brief instant he had been observing them, Schiller heard several whooshes by his ear. He instinctively rolled aside, only to hear another scream beside him. "Ah! My leg!!!"
He turned and saw Mrs. Allen on the floor, clutching her calf and convulsing in agony. Mr. Allen hurried over to pull her up, only to be shot down himself.
Schiller shook his head inwardly. What a rabble.
Amanda was, as always, living down to expectations with her stupidity. Expecting to lead a group like this in a charge was pure wishful thinking.
