After that leader died, Egypt's major cities were quickly placed under martial law—especially Hurghada, where the incident had taken place. It immediately entered a state of war. Troops kept pouring into the districts to conduct searches and arrests. That forced Deathstroke and Schiller to retreat back to the safe house.
Schiller walked into the basement, and when he saw the ruined sofa and the mess all over the floor, he seemed somewhat shocked, and somewhat puzzled. Deathstroke turned to look at him and said, "Don't tell me carsickness causes amnesia too."
"No," Schiller said. "I know what caused this. I'm just surprised you were able to tolerate such destruction."
"Was that something I could tolerate?" Question marks were practically popping out of Deathstroke's head. "You damn near rammed me headfirst into the Red Sea. Aside from tolerating you, did I have any other choice?"
"Of course you did." Schiller looked at the shards of the coffee table on the floor, then said, "You could have left."
"Do you want to hear what you're saying?" Deathstroke was genuinely stunned by his shamelessness. He said, "This is my safe house. You're telling me to leave?!"
"The original purpose of establishing a safe house is to ensure your safety. If this place is no longer safe, then why is there any need for you to continue staying here?"
Deathstroke opened his mouth and found, to his surprise, that he had nothing to say. Schiller walked over to the sofa with one damaged armrest and sat down, then said, "Perhaps you haven't realized it yourself. Your tolerance for me far exceeds what you should have for a temporary partner you met halfway. What did you see in me that made you willing to sacrifice the professionalism you value most for the sake of curiosity?"
