Many people were awed by Charles Xavier's beauty. Joseph clearly wasn't one of them. Many people didn't dare look into Charles's blue eyes, but Joseph's reason for not daring was probably different from everyone else's—looking directly at a telepath like Charles Xavier, connecting brainwaves with him, and gazing straight into his mental world was, for any telepath, no different from facing an ancient god.

Schiller could roughly imagine what he would see. Charles's mental form was unimaginably vast. The first time he had seen it, the entire Earth had seemed to be cradled in his arms.

"Calm down, child," Charles said. "For a powerful hacker, breaking into the Pentagon isn't difficult. The difficult part is getting out without leaving a trace. That is the true essence of telepathy, isn't it?"

Oh boy. The moment those words came out, Constantine grew wary, and Bat-Cat's fur stood on end.

It might sound reasonable, but the key was that if the human brain was treated as a computer and telepaths as hackers, then the most terrifying thing was that certain extremely powerful hackers could come and go freely without leaving a trace. That meant you didn't know when he had arrived, what he had changed, or whether he had been manipulating you all along. Charles was definitely powerful enough to do that, and very likely had already done it before. Otherwise, he would never have had such an insight.

All that could be said was that his youthful appearance had indeed changed Charles's mentality somewhat. He wasn't even pretending anymore.

And yet Joseph was still nodding thoughtfully over there. Schiller quickly cut off this dangerous atmosphere and said, "Try this."

He handed the helmet over. Although Joseph had not put it on yet, he seemed to have figured out what it was for.
