Dark, damp, sealed in. His eyes opened, and awareness returned. Erik had only just regained consciousness when a sharp pain tore through his right shoulder.
He turned his head and saw an iron ring as thick as two fingers nailed through his collarbone. The chain was mottled with rust, its other end fixed to the wall. The iron spike had sunk deep into the stone; though a little crooked, it was utterly immovable.
The chain was less than a meter long. His right hand could not even fully stretch out, so he could only sit with his back against the wall. Within reach of his left hand, there was only one leg of the bed.
"Damn it..."
He could not help muttering to himself. Even turning his head slightly pulled at the muscles in his shoulder, and the pain left him dizzy and dazed, almost unable to concentrate.
Erik took a deep breath and began analyzing what exactly was going on with this opening. He moved only his eyes, sweeping over the room, and when he saw the iron bars set into one wall, he realized he was in a cell.
There was no light source inside the cell. Only on the wall to the right outside the cell was there a torch, but the flame was very weak and could only illuminate the area around the bars. Even after his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he could barely make out half the room.
Erik found that he was fixed to the wall on the right side of the room, around the middle. There was a bed to his left, and a small bedside cabinet to the left of the bed. Other than that, there was nothing.
