The cylindrical hall had originally been pitch-black, but as the two figures who had just climbed out of the passage walked in, torches lit one after another, filling the place with bright firelight. At the same time, however, the sudden brightness was hard to adjust to. Erik narrowed his eyes slightly.
In the very center of the hall stood a strange container: a cylindrical tank almost the same shape as the hall, sealed with metal at the top and bottom, with a ring of metal wire around its middle. What was inside the tank was not liquid, but a mechanism that looked a little like a set of scales from a distance.
Erik was the first to walk forward. He saw that on the side of the cylindrical tank facing the passage, there was a square wooden opening. It was not large, probably just big enough for someone to stick an arm inside. And on the wooden board below the opening, a hand had been drawn.
A pipe at the opening connected to the top of the scales inside the tank. On the right side of the scales was a huge metal basin. The basin was opaque, so they could not see what was inside it. But right now, the right side of the scales had been pressed down slightly, while the left side had tilted up a little.
There were also some mechanisms on the left side of the scales, but they were blocked by a metal barrier, making it impossible to tell what they did. It seemed that the higher the left side tilted, the more the mechanism could take effect.
Charles stood in front of the tank and looked inside. At the bottom of the tank was a faint pink liquid, most of which had drained away
